About

Alicia Ross, Enneagram Teacher and Coach

As a nonprofit leader, the Enneagram helped me identify my gifts and, more importantly, discover the blindspots that were inadvertently undermining my efforts to bring positive change to my organization and build strong relationships. It gave me tools to manage a team more effectively, navigate conflict, improve communication, strengthen organizational culture and build critical partnerships. The Enneagram system offers powerful wisdom to help us awaken from our habitual patterns, make different choices and have more compassion for ourselves and others. It provides a growth path for becoming who we are truly meant to be on a personal and professional level.

As an Enneagram teacher and coach, I bring a unique perspective rooted in almost twenty years as a community organizer and nonprofit leader focused on leadership development and social justice work, as well as a committed seeker on the spiritual path.

From my years in organizing, I have developed an ability to fearlessly and compassionately assess the brutal reality we face in ourselves, our systems, and our political environment, but also to find the opportunities for hope—and then work tirelessly to bring the maximum tools and strategies to bear on charting a course for a new possible future. I have learned that we can only change what we are willing to see, both internally as well as externally.

Organizing has taught me to love the questions we hold in our hearts, to inquire deeply into what motivates each of us and to nurture the potential in each person. I have coached and supported hundreds of community leaders to move from feeling trapped and alone in their pain to actively building community, harnessing their inner power and acting courageously in service of those they love.

Why the Enneagram?

In 2008, I discovered the Enneagram at a retreat led by Fr. Richard Rohr, Russ Hudson and Suzanne Stabile. It was a life-changing moment for me on a personal and professional level. No other personality system has the same depth for understanding one’s motivation nor offers such a clear path for growth as the Enneagram. As a nonprofit leader, the Enneagram helped me identify my gifts and, more importantly, discover the blindspots that were inadvertently undermining my efforts to bring positive change to my organization and build strong relationships. It gave me tools to more effectively manage a team, navigate conflict, improve communication, strengthen organizational culture and build critical partnerships.

On a personal level, as a “recovering” Type 2, the Enneagram has helped me wake up to the ways I have neglected and lost touch with myself in my personality’s drive to win the approval and love of others. I have experienced more inner freedom and less resentment in my relationships as I learn to encounter myself beyond my ego’s narrative.

My approach to Enneagram work is to balance the practical with the profound, to bring humor and compassion to my teaching style and to help further a deep appreciation for the unique beauty of every person. I also operate out of a clear recognition of our need for one another on the journey to increased self-awareness and the discovery of our purpose.

Grounded in Essential Wisdom

From the spiritual perspective, I approach the Enneagram work rooted in the sacredness of the natural world and the ways the Universe can provide a humbling and awe-inspiring reminder of our interconnectivity with all life, as well as our unique calling as human beings to contribute our creativity and gifts to the world. I also bring a spirituality deeply informed by the teachings of the mystics of the world’s religions, the Cistercian monastic tradition, the Diamond Approach, Buddhism and 5 Rhythms/Open Floor dance meditation practice.
